I was deeply touched by the strength and love your family showed, and Ben's extraordinary courage and honesty in making the film (and sharing it with the world).
Through creative and accessible means, ALS Film Fund is committed to educating, inspiring and invoking change for the future benefit of ALS patients worldwide. ALS Film Fund is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to ALS awareness and education.
ALS is a mysterious neuromuscular disease affecting men and women of all ages and races throughout the world. With no known cure, patients are often told to go home and make the most of the time they have left. It can be a devastating diagnosis that can leave patients with little hope. Additionally, public awareness of the disease and its ramifications is much lower than that of more prevalent diseases, which can lead patients to feel very alone.
With many reputable research organizations already in existence, it is the goal of ALS Film Fund to educate the public, promote awareness for the disease, foster better patient care and give patients information and a sense of community as they battle their disease. In turn, these efforts will help to further the research and development of new treatments and potential cure for the disease.
This organization resulted from the work of ALS patient, actor and filmmaker, Ben Byer, who lost his battle with ALS in 2008. He dedicated years to directing and producing INDESTRUCTIBLE, a documentary film depicting his journey with ALS. Although INDESTRUCTIBLE is a major element to the ALS Film Fund, we strive to continue Ben’s work through additional artistic and creative means. It is important to reach out and let the public see the true “face” of this disease and why it is so vital to continue to search for a cure.
